Description
It is now a well established tradition that -whenever the TC takes place in Las Vegas- we include a Tour of the Nevada Test Site (NTS) at the end of the Classroom sessions. The Tour is planned for Thursday November 20.

The Tour will include TC related work areas and some historic areas. If you are interested in the Tour please make sure to read the sections below on "Needed Paperwork","Prohibited Items" and "NTS Site Tour Attire".

Tour Program
Tour sites scheduled to be visited (subject to change) include:

  • Yucca Mountain Project,
  • completed D&D project sites,
  • on-going D&D project sites,
  • yet to be done D&D project sites,
  • Area 5 Radioactive Waste Management Complex (RWMC)
  • Area 3 RWMC
  • Soudan Crater and numerous other drive-by viewing of historic NTS sites/relics

The drive out to the NTS and back requires 1.5 - 2 hours each way / lunch will be either box lunches or a stop at the Mercury site cafeteria. Tour departs hotel at 0700 and returns at about 1800.

Needed Paperwork:

Attendees wishing to participate in the Tour will have to submit a Form to be granted access to the Nevada Test Site, namely:

  • US citizens will need to submit by November 5, 2008 the NV-205 Form ("Information Required From Uncleared U.S. Citizens for Access to U.S. Department of Energy, Nevada Operations Office Facilities")
Download NV-205 Form for US Citizens page in pdf format PDF (474KB).
  • non-US citizens will need to submit by September 30, 2008 the UFV&A Long Format IAP-66 Form
Download UFV&A Long Format IAP-66 Form for non-US Citizens page in pdf format PDF (1MB).

Please download the form which suits your case, print it out, fill it in and fax it to us at 630-252-7577 (address to Larry Boing). Follow the Instructions (see below). The forms will then be submitted by us to the NTS security office.

Prohibited items
Please make sure to check the DOE-NTS Prohibited Article Policy page in pdf format PDF (183K).

NTS SITE TOUR ATTIRE -
As far as recommended attire for the tour, since we will be traveling a great deal, comfortable attire is recommended. The site operates with a very casual dress code from levis and T-shirts or polo-shirts to business casual (suits are definitely discouraged). Footwear should be sturdy, but no boots will be required for the walkdown. No open-toed shoes are permitted. Any additional PPE will be provided at the facility, if needed. The weather should be nice the end of March, but a light jacket may be in order for the early morning hours.
